Interview Skills

Interviews can be scary, especially when the competition is tough and you really want the job! We’ve compiled some tips to help you through it:

1) Research

Make sure you thoroughly research the company, and if possible, the people in it. Know who does what and the history of the company. Also research the role, and know what would be expected of you in this role.

2) Look the part

Just because you are going for a fashion job, it doesn’t mean you have to wear all the latest trends at once! Chose one trend and use that in one key piece- you don’t want to look too try-hard. Keep the rest of your look clean, well put together, and appropriate for the job that you are going for e.g. if you’re going for a head office buying role, you should wear appropriate business dress with a fashion edge.

3) Take something with you

Always take your portfolio but also do some extra preparation and take it with you. For example, take a mood board, do a competitive shop or do a SWOT analysis.

4) Have some questions ready

Make sure you think of some questions to ask before you go- you’ll always be asked if you have any, and it shows that you have a proactive attitude if you ask.

5) Don’t be nervous!

Easier said than done we know! But try to calm yourself, nerves make both you and the interviewer feel uncomfortable. Take a deep breath and relax-what’s the worse that can happen?!
